Layouts
There are five projects in 00 gauge in progress:-
1. Maudland Sidings.
This is a truncated scale model of Maudland sidings, Preston, in BR days. These sidings, which no longer exist, were at the western end of the Longridge branch where it diverged from the West Coast main line just north of Preston station.
The model will be run as an end to end layout, the scenic part of which is 'L' shaped 12' x 8'. The track is laid, wired and operational. The fiddle yards are now completed and for operational convenience and to save space share baseboards which join the two ends of the layout together . Scenery is well under construction with the signal box, canal and bridges in place. Preston No 5 Box at the junction with the main line is also complete. A modified model of St Peter's school, our previous club rooms, is in situ and can be seen to the left in the picture below. The terraced housing of the area, models of the Soap Works and the goods shed are now complete with work well in hand on the model of St Peters Church.

A WD loco passes Maudland Curve signal box and crosses the canal on its way back in to Preston.

2. Bee Lane.
This 20' x 9' layout represents the West Coast Main Line just south of Preston at Farrington Curve Junction. It depicts the Main lines and the diverging Blackburn and Ormskirk routes with a slightly simplified track plan. Two of the main running lines have been modified for DCC operation of locos and points. The masts and catenary are scratch built with infra red operated 4 aspect colour light signals. As the Society's main running layout stock from any period will be seen on Club Nights but at exhibition it is intended to operate as from 1974 onwards.

3. The Late Rev. John Hocking's Work
Over a period of some 12 years the late Rev John Hocking and friends built a large fixed 00 gauge layout into the cellar of a house in Fulwood. Following his death and the subsequent sale of the property this layout was threatened with destruction. Fortunately the Society was able to save the main scenic sections which, in time, may be made operable again in modular form.
4. "Ardson"
(Personality Layout) As seen inThis 10' x9' layout, based on characters from well known children's books, is intended to show what " Dad and his lad (or daughter) " might aspire to with readily available "train set" items. It has much greater operational scope than it's popular "Challenge" predecessors.
Development of the next layout in this series is now in hand.
(1st Appeared at Exhibition 2003)

We believe that almost every character in the books and in the more recent television programmes,( with the exception of those on the narrow gauge), is available to appear on this layout.

"Tellem Summit".This 14' x3' layout, is under construction as a replacement for the Society's well known popular exhibition layout "Askam Knowt
." The track plan consists of three separate ovals, two for the main lines and one for local line serving the station and industrial site. Each oval is served by 3 fiddle sidings. On club nights, trains from all over the world may be seen but for the most part it is served by BR. The layout has now been landscaped and is being populated with kit and scratch built architecture.
.
009 layout "Chelthwaite Mills" by Dave Scott
This well known layout, built and exhibited by the late Dave Scott, is now in the care of P& D.M.R.S. It is intended to be exhibited at a future date.
Dave was noted for his esoteric rolling stock and could, with wonderful imagination, convert any vehicle for rail use.
The rolling stock in these pictures is modelled by Martin Sutcliffe

In memory of a very popular "Modellers Modeller" the 'Dave Scott' Trophy is awarded at each Preston exhibition to best layout in show as voted by his peers from the visiting exhibitors.
Test track 0/0n30 (0/16.5), 00, 009 & N Gauge.
There's always somewhere to run your locos at P&D.M.R.S.
Work is now underway on a large new 00 layout which will give more scope for both D.C and D.C.C. operations.
